We are delighted to partner with the team at Dirty Gertie’s Speak Easy in Christchurch Dorset. We first discovered them whilst looking for the perfect gin to make our signature Classic Negroni, and after a long search (I know it’s a hard job right :). We found the hidden Gem that is Dirty Gertie’s.
It’s a small and intimate Cocktail Bar, Run By Will and his friendly team, it genuinely has such a laid back vibe (Which is harder and harder to find these days ! ). Although we love going to sample 5 Star hotels and invitation only bars, as part of our research, In honesty we can find those places a bit "inaccessible" sometimes and find ourselves having more fun in a place like DG's, it feels more.. real !
Anyway back to the location and all important Gin ! The Location is one of the oldest buildings in the UK and has its own Jail !, ironically for a place with a inbuilt Jail, it was once home to the infamous Dirty Gertie, who over the years was accused of many a nefarious activity, from operating as a less than above board butchers ! To aiding the smuggling of alcohol through the hard to navigate Christchurch harbour!
This naughty behaviour earned him his nickname "Dirty Gert" ! So with its smuggling background, it just made sense to Will, to turn it into Christchurch’s first speak easy.
The Gin
Will decided the Gin's he was using for his Gin based cocktails needed an upgrade to get the true flavour profile he was looking for, so created from scratch Dirty G’s Batch A Craft Gin, a smooth, Orange and Herbaceous gin, that we discovered is the absolute perfect gin for a Negroni !
The subtle natural ribera orange, and subtle herbs distilled in the gin, complement the Italian classic and give it more depth, it was Amore at first sip ! Just like that, our first Craft Cocktail Club Distiller partner was born. We use Batch A as the base to our Classic Negroni, as well as the Dirty Gertie’s Craft Cocktail Club creation the Negroni Bergamotto.
